My CRYSTAL Clear Stance on Vaccines (which aren't immunizations)

Recently, I asked for feedback with a survey that went out in my email newsletter.  If you did it, thank you for your feedback.  I want to keep healthcare about health and your feedback helps me do that.
One question I asked was ‘What should I STOP doing?’  Below is a response that caught my attention and feel it’s one that many of you may have questions regarding so I need to address it.  This is going to be lengthy but I want to be CLEAR with my response, and hopefully a little fun doing it.
"You should clarify your position on immunizations. If you just totally throw out immunizations because of their toxicity then that's being ignorant and incorrect. I agree that some of the ingredients In immunizations are toxic to our body but so are the diseases they are preventing!! Much more so! Our generation and the ones coming after us have never experienced a loved one who is debilhatated by polio or a disformed baby from a mother who had Rubella while pregnant. So we have gotten ignorant of what the cost is for not having those vaccines and say that he stuff In the vaccines is toxic. Not addressing the toxicity of the disease it's preventing. This makes it hard to take things you say seriously because what else are you leavin out or not being completely honest about. If you want people to trust you on your other points, you need to address everything about the immunizations so that your argument has merit. Like if you say you are lobbying or for a more natural form of immunizations without the toxic elements that would be a more reasonable argument."
After reading it a few times, I’m trying to think who would write this.  Remember it’s anonymous but I still like to guess.  Usually when I get questions regarding vaccines with the argument they are good because of what happened with polio and many other communicable diseases, it’s usually someone in the Baby Boomer type population.  It could also be someone in the medical field.  As I mentally scanned my list of clients, email contacts, Facebook friends, and professional organizations, I could only think of one person that fits my assumed social profile.
The only person it could be is my mom.  Imagine your mom calling you out like this, questioning your integrity and honesty?  Pretty hurtful, right?  Therefore I need to make my position on vaccines (not immunizations) crystal clear, just like mom suggested.
This will be lengthy, I don’t want to leave ANYTHING out, but these are the points as to why I will never choose to vaccinate my own son and any future kids my wife and I have.  Just to be clear, I’ll go to jail before allowing someone to force a vaccine into my child’s arm.

VACCINATION vs. IMMUNIZATION:
Clarification needs to be created regarding VACCINATION vs. IMMUNIZATION.  I’m all for immunization.  The problem created by media and pharmaceutical influence is that people equate immunization with vaccination.  Vaccination is simply injecting something into your body.  This does not create immunity for your body.  These are 2 totally separate entities.
Another thing that urks me is my ‘mom’s’ comments about me leaving out stuff and therefore destroying my credibility.   I would like to add I make ZERO money off of this blog.  I may book some speaking gigs from it but those revenues will come nowhere near the $20 BILLION per year the makers of vaccines cherish.  Who do you think has more weight on their shoulders to hide information?  Huh, mom?  Huh?
With building immunity, it’s a natural process.  With that natural process, your body uses many defenses.  The first layer of defense is your skin.  This blocks out any harmful opportunistic buggers.  With a vaccine, this law of nature is totally bypassed by injecting you with a needle full of stuff your skin would never allow past it.
You also have a respiratory system that also aids in defense.  You cough, you sneeze, and you blow your nose, in attempt to expel the potential invader.  Coughing, sneezing, and snorting are results of your immune system working.  Don’t suppress it with fever reducers, anti-histamines, etc.  You’re just making it easier for the invader.
You also have your gut-associated lymph system to fight with the stronger stuff.  If your system is so deficient to get past these natural defenses,  the potential invader, live or dead, enters the blood stream.  Once something is in your blood stream, it can be transported any anywhere in your body, not good at all.  It’s like open bar at a chiropractic convention.
A vaccine violates all laws of natural immune defenses by taking a potential pathogen along with all the TOXIC ingredients (aluminum, formaldehyde, adjuvants, etc) directly into your blood system.  This process would never occur in building natural immunity.  That last sentence is kind of an oxy-moron.  Immunity is a natural thing.  Vaccines are an artificial thing.
FLAWED RESEARCH:
The scientific mantra of vaccines is that they are safe and effective based on their research.  Their research is flawed and is a double standard from any other drug product studied.  The Gold Standard in research design is the double blinded, randomized controlled trial (RCT).
This means that people are split into 2 groups randomly and participants are given either the real thing or the fake thing being tested.  Then progress is charted on who gets better, who gets worse, and the like.  In theory there should be no bias as to reporting because the researchers don’t know who is in the placebo or the real intervention group.
How many vaccines have ever been studied in this manner?  ZERO!  The reason?  The researchers will say they cannot perform an RCT because it would be unethical to NOT give a child a vaccine because if that child dies of something that could have been prevented, then they don’t want to be responsible.  But if someone dies in their trials from taking their anti-depressants, it must be ok.
Hey drug companies, I will volunteer my child to be in the placebo group and compare him to the health and well being of those that have gotten all the recommended vaccines.  I’m sure I can gather a few hundred thousand more to be in the placebo group to create a large sample.
Instead of research to see safety and effectiveness, they instead see if the person builds anti-bodies to the antigen (the foreign invader) that is in the vaccine.  If antibodies are built, then it’s ‘safe and effective,’ or so they lead us to believe.  These studies are rarely, if ever done on kids younger than 4 years old.  How can you say it's safe or effective for a baby if it's never studied on a baby?
The 2 populations that have limited production of anti-bodies are infants and geriatrics, the 2 most heavily vaccinated populations.  If their ability to produce anti-bodies is low, then the vaccine would be pointless.  The whole premise of the vaccine is that you get injected with a foreign invader and you produce anti-bodies against it.  If you can’t produce anti-bodies well then what’s the use of injecting something to try and stimulate that reaction?
With kids, their ability to produce any antibodies until after age 6 months is very limited. This is why breast milk is so important to infants.  Mom passes the anti-bodies to baby, that usually last about 6 months.  The immune system is very primitive that young.  The baby needs to spend way more energy in growth phase opposed to protection phase.

A mature nervous system (which controls your immune) system doesn't happen that early. Infants cannot talk, a sign of a mature nervous system.  Infants cannot walk, a sign of a mature nervous system.  Infants cannot control urination or defecation, a sign of a mature nervous system.  Giving a child a vaccine with an adult dose and assume they would react the same way doesn't make sense.

Even if the whole vaccine theory really worked, it would be absolutely pointless to inject a baby of 6 months or less with a vaccine.  With a child’s immune system being very immature until age 2, the overload of 36 vaccines by the age of 18 months seems about as logical as drinking from a fire hydrant.

When I bring this point up, I'll get the skeptic asking for specific reference of an infant not producing anti-bodies sufficiently.  Honestly, I don't have it, it's my own logic.  In the same breath, if I ask them to produce specific reference for an infant that can produce anti-bodies sufficiently, they cannot produce that evidence either.  Pro-vaccinators can't attack the vaccine choice crowd as unscientific with arguments that are unscientific.
BOOSTER BUST:
This is another aspect to the junk science of vaccines that exposes kids only 18 months old to 36 shots.  In their research of efficacy (how long something will work), they have no idea.  For this reason, we have multiple shots for multiple antigens.  Just take the latest HPV vaccine, the 3 series shot given to 12 year old girls to prevent HPV (an STD) which “MIGHT” but has never been confirmed, contribute to cervical cancer.
The manufacturer is only claiming 5 years of efficacy.  The problem with this is 2 fold.  1. The average age of cervical cancer is 50.  2. The shot is administered to 12 year old girls.
So we have a system pushing multiple shots (boosters) with a supposed 5 year efficacy timeline onto pre-teen girls, that was never tested on them, for a disease that has an average age of 50.  You give it a 12 year old and by the time she’s 17 the effects are worn off and then you claim you can prevent cervical cancer as they get older.  And I’m the quack for speaking out against vaccines.
So what are the efficacy rates of other vaccines?  Who knows?  They don’t study that, they assume and say we need more.  Once the vaccine is FDA approved and on the market, there’s no need to put any more money into it to study the effects.  Instead, we have a test tube of 4 million new subjects each and every year where they can just sit back, relax and never worry about a law suit because the government has protected them from any and all liability.

Since no studies go into how long the vaccine would last, then there can be an endless recommendation of potential booster shots.  The part that really confuses me are the shots that are 4 part series.  If the first 3 didn't confirm immunity, how do we know that the last shot was 'the one' that provides lifetime immunity?  Why would the 2nd to last shot be good for only a year but the last one be good for an entire lifetime?  That's pretty arrogant and sketchy logic.

POLIO PUSHERS:
If I were to ask you what polio looks like, you probably have images of wheel chairs, crutches and kids limping around.  You would be absolutely correct…less than 0.5-2% of the time.  I want to make it clear that I am not downplaying the devastation of that 2%.  The point I’m making, hopefully it’s clear enough, is that I am making decisions based on statistics not emotion. As a parent, it's very hard to separate the two sometimes.
In over 95% of the time, polio presents with the following symptoms: slight fever, malaise, headache, sore throat, and vomiting.  These start 3-5 days after exposure and recovery is 24-72 hours with a result of lifetime immunity.  Bet you never heard that from your pharma influenced media or doctor?
In fact, if you went to your doctor with those symptoms and you were told you had polio, you would leave his office laughing and write bad reviews on his Google Places page.
The remaining 3% was non-paralytic polio.  This presented for 2-10 days as high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, hyperesthesia/parasthesia in extremities and some asymmetrical limb weakness.  Take this list of symptoms to your doctor and you will probably get a label of meningitis, not polio.
But Dr. Kurt, the vaccine saved all those people from getting the paralyzing version.  If you look at the charts below, you will see that Polio was already massively decreasing prior to any vaccine ever introduced.  I would also like to add that the highest incidence came at a time our country was in despair (poor sanitation, hygiene, nutrition) during the depression.
Polio was already on the way out prior to any introduction of vaccines.
It was a time where sanitation was poor, hygiene was poor, and nutrition was poor.  These are the reasons that third world countries have problems with communicable diseases, not lack of vaccines.  As the Great Depression was clearing up, people were living cleaner and healthier and there was also the introduction of a drug class called antibiotics that was given for any sniffle, cough, or fever.
The last natural case of polio in the US was 1979, yet we still give kids 4 rounds of this vaccine at 2, 4, 6-12 months, and 4-6 years.  But the fear tactics continue of, “it can come back or you don’t know about the destruction it caused.”  I’m not being ignorant to history.  I’m being reasonable about the present.
What about Typhoid and Scarlet Fever?  They had just as much devastation and with no vaccine, they are not a problem.  Nature took its course and with the advent of better sanitation, hygiene, and nutrition, they wiped themselves out.
Notice no vaccine for Typhoid of Scarlet Fever, yet they naturally decreased?

RUBELLA RANT:
This was another scary moment for women back in the middle part of the last century, as stated by my ‘mom’s’ criticism above.  You may be more familiar with this being called German measles.  Symptoms for Rubella are a mild rash, fever of 99+, and joint soreness
There was a big scare back in 1964-65 with 12.5 million cases diagnosed, with 20,000 of those cases or 0.16% of them being newborns.  As a result there were 11,000 or 0.088 % abortions (surgical and spontaneous) as well as 2,100 or 0.017% neonate deaths.  Again, having a child die is something I hope I or you never have to experience.  I can’t even imagine that experience but when I look at the actual chances of my child being infected or dying from this illness, there’s not much cause for concern in present day.
Here’s the thing with Rubella.   It’s the mom that is in danger, not the child.  The problem is if mom gets infected with Rubella in her first 4 months of pregnancy then she can pass it along to her fetus.  The child is born with it.
So why even give the shot to kids?  There’s no concern about them getting pregnant.  My only concern is that the easiest place to contract a communicable illness in our country is the hospital or OBGYN’s office, the places you're going to bring your child for the 'Well Baby Check.'  If you really are concerned about the Rubella, why not wait until you are planning on getting pregnant to get the shot as an adult?
I know, because that would deplete a massive piece of the market away from the drug companies.  It just decreased that market from a potential 4 million babies each year to about ½ of that by just targeting women.  As a man, why would I worry about German measles?   The market would be decreased even more because not all women want kids.
But Rubella is tied into a vaccine that includes regular measles as well as mumps.  Name a day in history that anyone got all three infections, measles, German measles, and mumps ALL on the same day.  It doesn’t happen.  Then why create vaccines like this?
This is getting lengthy so let me throw in some charts for your viewing pleasure.
MEASLY MEASLES:
The only stat I could find for deaths from measles in the US was in 2003 we had 2 deaths.  1 death was attributed to post bone marrow transplant surgery and the other was a 75 year old with pneumonia.  Media loves to report when there are measles outbreaks but what you'll never hear in their reports is that anyone died from it.
Even at its peak around 1920, with a mortality of 15 per 100,000, the chance of death was 0.014%.

Again, around 1918, the death rate for PERTUSSIS was about 17 per 100,000 or 0.017%.  By the time the pertussis vaccine was widely used, the rate of death was around 0.002%.
PERTUSSIS PUSH

You can see from the charts above that pertussis or Whooping Cough was virtually wiped out prior to any vaccine ever introduced.  Whooping cough gets a lot of media attention with outbreaks happening in California.  What gets failed to mention is that the overwhelming majority of the kids that have been diagnosed have been fully vaccinated.

I'm just waiting for an onslaught of media that people need to get MORE booster shots of DPT.  It's already given at 2, 4, and 6 months (useless due to no way of building anti bodies).  It's also given at 15-18 months and then boosters at 4-6 years.  Seriously?  If 5 shots aren't working, how many more until it does?

Why does pertussis travel so well in communities?  Poor sanitation, poor hygiene, poor nutrition.

This seems to be a very emotional issue as no parent enjoys hearing the awful cough and wheezing associated with Pertussis.  But is the shot safe?  According the research of the last 50 years, the vaccine is safe.  But what test showed it was safe?

It's called the Mouse Weight Gain Test.  "Researchers" would vaccinate mice at their stomachs.  If the mice continue to gain weight and don't die right away, it's considered safe. I wish I could make this stuff up.

And if you haven't heard, adults should the shot because it will protect the young.  In 2012, Australia stopped this adult vaccine program all together because there was no proof that it was protecting the young.  The US pushes on with commercials, celebrities, and PSAs about how adults should get the shot to protect the young.  Follow the money trail.

Should I go on?  After all, I don't want to leave anything out.

HEPATITIS B.S.

You should only be scared of this illness if you have sex with an infected person, have multiple sex partners, have other STDs, you are a man that has sex with other men, inject drugs (isn't that a vaccine?), or share needles, syringes, or other drug equipment.

I'm failing to see the need for 3 shots of this into a baby at birth, 1-2 months, and then again at 6-18 months.  I could be wrong.  Maybe there are IV drug using, prostitute babies out there.

DIPHTHERIA DUPED
The symptoms that warrant 4 shots of this vaccine before the age of 15 months are: sore throat with a low grade fever with an adherent membrane at the back of the throat. The weird thing is that in order for the toxins to be released, a specific strain of bacteria has to be infected with a specific virus called a B phage.  In other words, a certain bacteria has to make out with a certain virus.  In any case, it's nothing a simple antibiotic can clear up, no need for a vaccine.

TRICKED by TETANUS

One thing I would like to point out is the ridiculousness of giving a tetanus shot AFTER you have a puncture wound.  Why get a puncture wound that definitely contains tetanus after a puncture wound that might not contain tetanus?  It's sketchy enough to say you're immune from tetanus from the regular vaccine schedule but to say there are curative powers by getting the vaccine AFTER the puncture wound is pretty ballsy, yet many line up to get injected after they think they might have tetanus.

Let's look at who is at risk for tetanus?  Is it babies?

In 23 years, there were only 1,277 cases of tetanus, with close to 1000 of those being people over the age of 40.  I'm not too concerned about my baby.

After all, where do you find tetanus?  It's in soil and the intestines of animals and humans. I want my son to experience nature but I draw the line at playing in the intestines of animals or humans.
POINTLESS PNEUMOCOCCAL
Pneumococcal disease is caused by Streptococcal pneumonia bacteria.  The interesting thing is that there are more than 90 subtypes but the vaccine only contains 7 subtypes.  Are the other 83 subtypes not important or am I playing roulette with another shot?  I got accused of leaving out stuff, what about this vaccine?
It's estimated based on population studies (estimates), not actual stats that there are 40,000 cases of pneumococcal disease each year.  There is also an estimated (not confirmed) about 4,400 deaths (0.0014% chance of death) each year, with the highest mortality rate being in the elderly with underlying conditions (deficiency and toxicity).
With the shots given at 2, 4, 6, and 15-18 months, what chance does a baby have of developing anti-bodies against this disease?  Next to nill. The first 3 shots are pointless.
RARE ROTOVIRUS
Rotovirus is responsible for diarrhea.  It's estimated that 55,000 children are hospitalized each year in the US.  There's an estimated 527,000 deaths worldwide due to rotovirus.
How many die in the US?  The only stat I could find was from 1996 Journal of Infectious Disease where less than 40 kids died of rotovirus.  Again, any death from anything for a child is devastating.  But let's compare rotovirus to lighting strike deaths. Lighting strikes kill about 60 people each year.  You have a greater chance of dying from lightning than you do rotovirus.
Not to mention the rotovirus shots are administered at ages 2, 4, and 6 months, a time where a baby cannot develop antibodies against the antigen.
All those worldwide deaths?  Those are coming from the same reasons we had a polio epidemic, poor sanitation, poor hygiene, poor nutrition.
MUMPS BUMPS
In 2004, there were 350 deaths due to mumps.  312 were from Egypt.  2 were from the US, leaving you with a 0.00000065% chance of dying from mumps.
Mumps never posed a threat to the health and vitality of the American public.  In regards to the incidence of mumps, even the CDC states, "before vaccination, mumps was a common illness in children, infants, and adults."  Why create a vaccine?  There's big money in vaccines.  The vaccine industry has 4,000,000 potential new clients every year that will be repeat buyers until the age of 18.
ABRACADABRA VARICELLA
From 1990-1994, there was about 100 deaths each year due to chicken pox split between kids and adults.  Your chance of death by chicken pox is 0.000032%.  I'll take my chances by not giving this shot to my child.  My decision. You have to do what's best for your family.  If my kid does get chicken pox and your kid is vaccinated, then you shouldn't worry about it, right?  Your child is protected.
HEPATITIS A-HOLE
How do you contract Hepatitis A?  Eat food that someone else pooped in that is infected with Hepatitis A.  There are no statistical reports of deaths from Hep A, just a 0.0098% chance of contracting it.  The solution is good sanitation, hygiene, and nutrition.  Eating out is going to be a risk but again, I'll take my chances of eating food prepared by other people.  I have a greater chance of dying from a lightning strike.
HiB-izness
This series of 4 shots are given at 2, 4, 6, and 12-15 months.  Again, if a baby cannot develop antibodies until after 6 months, what's the point of giving a child any shot this early?  HiB is a common cause of bacterial meningitis.  If it's bacterial than a simple antibiotic should do the trick.  There's no need to add more shots that contain heavy metals into a child's ecosystem.

FLU and H1N1 HOAX
Do I even have to discuss these?  Even people pro vaccine think these are ridiculous.
The TRUE COST.
The cost of vaccinating is WAY larger than the cost of not-vaccinating.  Check out this German study.  I wish someone in the states would do this.  It will probably never happen because there is too much lobby money going into the Sacred Cow of Vaccines.  If this were done in the US, I would throw in rates for Autism (1 in 88 or 1.14% chance), Type-1 Diabetes, and childhood cancer.
In the US, 1/4 of children have a chronic illness.  Any nation that adopts our style of healthcare sees similar results.
Other costs are not just the chronic illness rates but the actual costs of vaccine damages.  In 1986, President Reagan signed the National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act into public law (Public Law 99-660).
On October 1, 1988, the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program was created.  The government also set up the Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System.  Since 1991 $1.8 BILLION has been awarded to those vaccine injured.  75% has been awarded for reactions to the DPT shots.
To clarify my position on vaccines, I am not, nor will not ever lobby for cleaner ingredients for vaccines.  If vaccines had organic ingredients, I still would choose to not vaccinate.
I will lobby and help those that lobby for vaccines to be a parental decision, not a state or federal mandate.
I will not kick anyone out of my practice that chooses to vaccinate but I will welcome the masses of those parents that choose to NOT vaccinate with open arms or a homey hug.
I will continue to educate and support those that educate in the name of choice.  There are some great organizations and doctors out there that do it much better and bigger than I can.
THOSE PEOPLE ARE:

POOR NUTRITION

I keep harping on the poor sanitation, poor hygiene, and poor nutrition aspect of why communicable diseases spread but you're probably wondering about the poor nutrition.  In our infants, breast milk is going to be the absolute best form of nutrition.  Antibodies get passed from mom to baby until baby can start forming some on his/her own.

I know there are some women out there having trouble breast feeding.  There are options like buying breast milk from other nursing moms.  This may sound gross but genetically, it's a heck of a lot saner than giving a child milk from a cow, a totally different species.

There are also ways to make your own infant formula that aren't full of cow's milk, sugar, high fructose corn syrup, artificial flavorings, etc.  Just Google it.

But mom needs to get good nutrition.  By good nutrition, I'm not talking about the food pyramid/plate garbage pushed by the government that includes all the foods subsidized by the government. I'm talking about genetically compatible nutrition.  Read more on my thoughts regarding nutrition.  I want to be clear.

I sincerely hope my point is clear.  Obviously there are 2 sides to the story and I presented the one less known, hardly ever heard, and greatly ignored.  You can take it and choose to not vaccinate, get extra vaccines or pick and choose certain ones, it doesn't affect me one bit.  Just make sure you look at both sides to make an informed decision.

  1. Well put together post. I have to say that, as a parent with a child that is currently recovering from pertussis, it is an extremely emotional thing to have a child go through. Particularly since it is a "wait it out" type of disease. I've done a LOT of research over the past 2+ months and have learned just how prevalant pertussis is throughout the population. It's missed a large majority of the time. Particularly since when an adult contracts it, it normally appears to be a "bad cold" or "allergies". I could keep going on this.
To actually make a point here...Do I regret not having my daughter vaccinated? No. As sleep-deprived as we've been for the past 2-3 months, and as much of an emotional roller coaster as it is, I still know that we made the right choice.

    1. Our daughter had pertussis at age 19 months—contracted the month after she stopped breastfeeding—so I completely understand what you experienced. But for us, as I'm sure it was for you, the risk of getting the disease was an informed decision, and I would rather experience that than permanent vaccine damage or death. Our daughter turns 11 this month, and she (and our other two children, also unvaccinated) is one of the healthiest kids we know. The most helpful thing that mainstream medical did for her was to prescribe inhaled steroids via a nebulizer to help protect her lungs throughout the course of the illness, although the pediatric specialist misdiagnosed her as having asthma—even though there is zero history of asthma in our family, and the illness was textbook pertussis (we only went to that guy once).

    1. Dr. what could I say to a person who thinks all adults around a baby should be vaccinated/have booster shots to make sure they are not carriers that could infect a newborn?

Also, could you please point me to a medical source stating that infants don't develop immunity until after 6 mos of age?

Thank you for this article, it reaffirmed my conviction to not vaccinate my last 2 children. I followed my pediatrician unquestioningly for my first 3 children and I pray that I didn't introduce something that will harm them in the long term. I'm a bit worried about my 7 year old's neurological system...she has very little impulse control and hyperactivity (not diagnosed though). I have not given her any subsequent vaccinations beyond age 5, nor any booster shots to my older children ages 11 & 12.

    3. You should give your kids vaccines. Listen to Doctors, believe it or not, they know what they are talking about, that's what all that schooling is about.

The man who wrote this post is not a doctor, nor is he a scientist. He's an idiot. That or he does know what he is talking about and is intentionally presenting you with false and misleading information, which is even worse. Still, I am willing to bet its the former.

Endangering your children through inactivity is unforgivable, no matter how much you would like to convince yourself otherwise.

    4. Listen to doctors? From Wikipedia:

Statistics show that approximately 195,000 people are killed every year by medical errors in the US.[1][dubious – discuss] The study notes that about 1.14 million patient-safety incidents occurred among the 37 million hospitalizations in the Medicare population over the years 2000-2002. Hospital costs associated with such medical errors were estimated at $324 million in October 2008 alone.[2] Between 15,000 and 19,000 malpractice suits are brought against doctors each year.[3]

Doctors are an input into the discussion. They do not manufacture drugs, and they do not test them. They read about them (in journals created by the manufacturers) and then prescribe them.

Additionally, doctors aren't infallible. Get that whacky notion out of your head. Like house painters, they are prone to making errors.

When you're getting information from the people making the money, you're not getting the whole story. This is common sense. I'm not saying it's always wrong, but asserting that information used to make a decision come from a single source is, and no disrespect, horse shit.

    6. Yes indeed! Even if he isn't a Dr he did his research. Those graphs that back up his points come from government records. Did that person see that? In college you learn that an argument must be backed up by good source material. His sources are reliable and convincing. Some people just want to tell everybody else what to do using guilt as a motivator. Sheesh!

  5. Because our boys are state wards, we are forced to vaccinate. I drag my feet as much as I can hoping no one will notice until they're legally ours. But, when our youngest got the rotavirus vaccine (at 8mos, not 4mos), he suffered from fever and lethargy for 3 days and the rest of the family developed vomitting and/or diarrhea within 24-72 hours after he received his shots. Why? Because that particular vaccine will shed for up to two weeks after vaccination. It sheds in urine, feces and most significantly in an 8 month old, drool. Did anyone tell me this beforehand? No. Was I asked to sign an informed consent? No. Was I asked to give verbal consent? No. But, his sheet says, "Verbal Consent from Mom." on it. So, it's a game of he said/she said when it comes to adverse reactions and what parents are actually told prior to their children getting a vaccination. And, while my husband and I have obviously never received the rotavirus vaccine, our son's older brothers had. And they still suffered from the diarrhea and vomitting.

Aside from everything you've posted above, which is brilliant, if a parent, for whatever reason, chooses to or is forced to vaccinated, Nutriwest has a great homeopathic to prevent adverse reactions called DPT-Tox.

P.S. My mom is my biggest critic, too.

  6. Allison, I have patients and friends that have gone through he same thing with adoption. They don't want to vaccinate yet are forced to until the state says, 'they're yours.' That's a very tough situation. Thanks for the recommendation on the Nurtiwest product. I use a couple Nutriwest products and will look for that one.

Once again you're overstepping the bounds of your qualifications, and that's why you don't have the MD suffix after your name. Please, PLEASE stick to your field of expertise, and let the MEDICAL doctors speak to the merits and risks of vaccinations. The idea that somehow medical communities and all the intelligent people going into the field of medicine would ignore all your supposed "evidence" that it's better to let nature take its course than get a child vaccinated would be laughable if it it wasn't so concerning. I believe you're sincere, but I also believe you're sincerely misguided, and I hope that you eventually realize that you could be endangering the life of a child due to your poor advice.

All 4 of my children were adjusted within 2 days of birth, and all received adjustments whenever they had symptoms for anything... the adjustments realigned the body parts out of sync and the symptoms disappeared... no drugs, no vaccinations, no side effects.

  8. Thanks for the article. Just a little added polio information:

In 1960 the Illinois Medical Society held a panel of polio vaccine experts - three statisticians and an MD - to discuss the problems with the ongoing vaccination campaign. The resulting transcript, the Ratner report, is at:

    http://greatmothersquestioningvaccines.com/uploads/2/8/8/8/2888885/ratner_1960.pdf

The discussion is interesting. It seems that in 1956 the CDC wiped out two thirds of the cases of paralytic polio with the stroke of a pen, by drastically changing the diagnostic parameters. They simultaneously changed the definition of a polio epidemic, cutting almost in half the number of outbreaks that would thenceforth be so labeled.

They also discuss the apparent shift in diagnosis of non-paralytic polio to viral or aseptic meningitis, as Dr. Perkins mentions. Coincidentally, public health reports reflect the incidence of polio vs aseptic meningitis in essence reversing during the decade 1955 - 1965, polio fading to virtually zero, aseptic meningitis blossoming, to replace it.

In 1959 the Dominion Bureau of Statistics in Ottawa, Canada, published its annual polio report for the previous year. Quote:

"It may be noted that the Dominion Council of Health at its 74th meeting in October 1958 recommended that for the purposes of national reporting and statistics the term non-paralytic poliomyelitis be replaced by 'meningitis, viral or aseptic' with the specific viruses shown where known."

There's every reason to believe that a similar "recommendation" was made by the CDC. Certainly their behavior in changing the diagnostic parameters of paralytic polio and the definition of polio epidemic, following on the heels of the introduction of the polio vaccine, warrant our distrust.

I want parents to make the best choice for their kids. If they did all the research and still vaccinate, I can respect that. But honestly, I've never met someone that stepped back and looked at both sides objectively, and were still willing to have their kids injected as recommended.

I stopped vaccinating my children 6 years ago but sometimes I freak out wondering if I made the right choice--especially after an article like the one above. We have also had some experiences that have lead me to conclude that vaccines might be quite effective after all. My older kids received most of their vaccinations including one dose of the chicken pox vaccine around 7 years ago. 3 summers ago we were exposed to the chicken pox virus through a child who had indeed been vaccinated. My older two kids who had received the CP vaccine did not get sick or show any signs of getting the chicken pox--much to my dismay as I really wanted them to get the illness in childhood rather than adulthood. The youngest who had not been vaccinated for this did indeed get the chicken pox. Unfortunately, his immune system has not been the same since and my child who once never got sick now suffers from asthma. This is very discouraging to me since he is the least vaccinated of my children. We were also exposed to Whooping Cough last year through a child at school. My older two kids had received most if not all of their DPaT shots--my youngest only one or two rounds. My oldest and youngest did show signs of getting it--but not severely at all. I however got a full blown case and it was HORRID--WC is no joke. It is not something I would want anyone to experience and I can totally see how it's deadly to newborn babies. I was ready to vaccinate once again when I remembered the main reason I don't is because I swear it causes viruses and bacteria to mutate much like antibiotics and we are only creating super viruses/bacteria. Then I read a story like the one linked above and I question myself all over again.

As for your situation, don't feel like a bad parent because you go back and forth with the situation. A good parent looks at both sides of the fence objectively and makes a decision in the best interest of their kiddos, which sounds like you did that. If you have looked at both sides and feel you want to or don't want to vaccinate, that's a win for making an educated decision. It's about making informed decisions. Too many blindly follow and that's where I have concern.

  19. Your logic on the "ridiculousness" of receiving a tetanus shot post puncture injury is entirely flawed. After a person has a risk of exposure, they are advised to get a shot of preformed antibodies, which can neutralize the tetanus toxin before it can cause its horrific effects. This particular shot is not the same as the one used to vaccinate pre-exposure, which is known as the TDaP and contains inactive forms of the toxin and never the bacteria itself. Additionally, Hepatitis A absolutely has caused mortality and continues to do so. This could goes on, but I do not wish to continue to list our the factual errors in your post. I simply want to advocate that you be mindful about the validity of your research before criticizing an entire branch of medicine that has done immense good for public health. It may be easy to consider these horrific diseases to be irrelevant while living in the privileged parts of the world, but you do not have to go far to find children and families for whom "good sanitation, hygiene, and nutrition" are simply not feasible, and for whom these vaccines are literally life saving.

    1. Ref. tetanus: antibodies are only to be found in the blood, while the toxins which initiate the tetanus symptoms act only upon the nervous central system, where antibodies have absolutely no effect.

    2. I would like to add that the reason we do not have to worry about contracting these horrific diseases in our day-to-day lives is because enough people are vaccinated in our communities that we have what's called 'herd immunity.' If enough people choose not to vaccinate their children, we will be back to mass outbreaks of preventable diseases. But the world is overpopulated anyway...

      Delete
    3. Herd immunity is crap. The only way it would even work is if all adults were up to date on boosters, and I know very few adults who are even aware that their vaccinations they got as children do not in fact stay with you for a lifetime. All of these diseases were on the decline before vaccinations were ever invented, central heating, sanitation and antibiotics were what sent these horrible diseases on a downward shift.

    4. I just want to mention that it might seem to some like vaccines have done a world of good, etc. But, when you are the mother holding your infant son while he arches his back, shudders, and stops breathing after he has screamed for 4 hours straight - only to open his eyes and start screaming for another 2 hours, it doesn't feel like that. It feels at that time that vaccines are destroying the world. Maybe the truth is somewhere in between, but some of us have learned the dangers of vaccines first hand. That was my son I mentioned, by the way.

I only got one vaccine for my daughter and it was the DTaP. Within 30 minutes, she had a bad headache and was getting irritable. Within a few hours, she had a high fever and wouldn't wake up.

Maybe it's my genetics, but vaccines are NOT good for my kids.

    6. Some people are in medical school and don't have time to look up references to prove things to morons. If you want to die of tetanus because of ignorance... be my guest. I'm just trying to warn you that this stuff is wrong.

It is true that preformed antibodies can do nothing about tetanus toxin that's already bound in the central nervous system, but it can bind toxin that is still circulating in the blood. Toxin bound by the preformed antibodies is then unable to affect the nervous system. The injection is meant to prevent symptoms from worsening to the point that they cause respiratory failure.

Medicine isn't just some bullshit that someone made up to make money. It's evidence based. You can look up references yourself. I'm busy trying to learn how to take care of sick people. I'm not responsible for your willful ignorance. You can pretend that I am, but that won't save you if your ever infected with a preventable illness.

    7. How do "they" control you?

      It's as easy as 1, 2, 3.

      1. Fear ("if you don't do what I say your child will die and you will be responsible"); and

      2. Ridicule ("only stupid, ignorant, whacko, fanatic, silly people don't vaccinate, don't you realize that, Madam?"); and

      3. Ivory-Tower-ness [otherwise known as "I-am-a-doctor-don't-dare-to-question-me-you-lowlife-ignorant-moron"-ness] ("Look, I went to medical school and they waved a magic wand over me and thus made me superhuman and I'm much to busy to bother to deal with you and your fears and questions - find another doctor).

These tactics work on the vast majority of the population - especially politicians (who usually don't read what they vote on anyway - they just take the lobby money or vote how they are told to vote by the party whip).

I have run my son through the first year of "basic" vaccinations because I assumed I had to in order to have him in school or day-care. I looked deeper into PA law about 3 months ago and discovered
Children need not be immunized if the parent, guardian or emancipated child objects in writing to the immunization on religious grounds or on the basis of a strong moral or ethical conviction similar to a religious belief. Medical exemptions are also allowed.
I'm frustrated that my ped didn't tell me that there is this exemption, since I expressed my attitude about vaccinations and said I only wanted ones that were required for school.

I do not want my son to have further vaccinations at his next well-visit, which I've put off from 12 month to 15 months precisely for this reason (it would be his "last"round of DTaP, polio, & Hep B, plus the MMRV). I have to start him in day care tomorrow because I just can't juggle him around and at work anymore and the lack of dependability of babysitters has frayed my last nerve.

      Thanks.

  22. Dr. Kurt,
Would you be willing to define what has been termed "herd immunity?" I have seen people write that "vaccinated children provide 'herd immunity'," while my understanding was that the group immunity could not be provided through inoculations, but by people in a culture developing resistance to disease and that resistance being passed on through blood - mother to unborn child, breast milk, and so forth. Maybe I am mistaken? Would you kindly clear this up for me or provide a link that you believe to be useful on this topic?

    Thank you!

    1. Herd Immunity is when the greater proportion of the population is immune to something, this then protects those that aren't immune yet. For example, if you have 5 kids and 4 have had chicken pox and are now immune, then if you have a baby that has not been exposed or immune, the baby would then be protected. In the vaccine camp, they think the only way this can be done successfully is to vaccinate everyone on the planet so those 'less fortunate' are protected. It's more about creating less exposure than creating immunity to anything. The greatest way to create less exposure to be healthy in the first place by creating sufficiency and purity in how one eats, moves, thinks in addition to sanitation and hygiene practices. Good question.

  24. I have a cousin who had meningitis at age 18 months (almost 30 years ago). She recovered, and although she got a slow start in school, she eventually caught up. Nevertheless, she has never been really well since then, suffering from hearing loss, poor eyesight, and asthma (it also took her parents years to recover from the financial impact of the hospital bills). Her meningitis may have been cured, but the damage it left behind will last forever. I would not wish my child to be exposed to that kind of trauma.

Also, about tetanus, you said: "After all, where do you find tetanus? It's in soil and the intestines of animals and humans. I want my son to experience nature but I draw the line at playing in the intestines of animals or humans."
But you do let your child play in soil, which is also a source of tetanus?

I don't believe that we should give so many vaccines, or give them so early and so often. Still, I am a little puzzled about why you are so blasé about the possibility of your child contracting a serious disease. Yes, many of these diseases can be cured by antibiotics, but in an age when so many bacteria are becoming resistant to antibiotics, personally I would rather the children not contract the disease in the first place.

    1. I believe the entire point of not vaccinating is taking into consideration the risks vs. benefits. The benefits of vaccinating are far too small to outweigh the risks.
As in the case with pertussis, the DTP, DTap, and Tdap vaccines have caused the most adverse reactions and don't even do what they say they will do. Something like 90% of pertussis cases occur and are spread by the vaccinated.

I suppose I would be considered "anti-vaccine" although we did choose to have our son receive the DTaP vac starting at 2 years of age due to where we live (farm area) and concern of grandparents (one had pertussis as a teen) although that series has been it so far and he is now quite healthy at almost 5 yo. Currently in a discussion with a sister and brother-in-law who are requesting that every family member that comes to visit them and their newborn be vaccinated for pertussis. We have declined at the cost of not visiting until the baby is older. They are supporting their stance with scientific papers and I'd love to have some specific papers to reference to the contrary - not to change their minds but to help them understand my choices. Science would carry more weight with them than unreferenced numbers. Thanks for any additional info you can provide. Loved the article.

wouldn't you rather go to a doctor that's a doctor? seriously how fucking stupid are you people. You really don't think doctors can keep you alive, and healthy, and prevent sickness??? What do you think a vaccine does?!?!

Any idea why you're not dying of smallpox right now?

I'll give you a hint, it's because of vaccines.

    3. LB11,

I notice your elegant quote is from a DC...coincidence? I might alter the quote to read "Medicine is the study of disease and what causes man to die, so that those causes can be mitigated to prolong and improve his life. Chiropractic is a lesser study." I certainly have respect for Chiropractors and their desire to help people, but (and I'll be blunt here), there's a reason why our countries greatest minds are applying to "Harvard Chiropractic School."

      Delete
    4. To simply say that Chiropractic is a "lesser study" means that you have no idea what all they study. Chiropractors are given a PHD for a reason. They go through the equivalent of medical school and a specialized field. They have the same school loans that MDs have. The reason our countries greatest minds go to traditional medical schools is because that is what is considered the best in our country, not because Chiropractic truly is less. It is just the perception that Chiros aren't really doctors and your comment proves to me that this perception is still alive and well.

  33. Dear Sir, re Hepatitis BS alone, can you absolutely guarantee that each of your children will not have sex with multiple partners, will not contract other STDs from their partner(s), or that their partner(s) won't have hepatitis b, or that they will never get any tattoos? Can you guarantee that much that many details in their future lives?

I hope you live forever so you'll be able to make sure that each one of your children has sex only with one perfectly healthy person for the rest of their lives. And i hope none of your sons is gay, for based on your article, he will already be at even greater risks for being what nature intended him to be.

    2. Supposing that the hep B shot is effective at all (there is research to the effect that any immunity conferred by newborn shots wears off by adulthood), the only reason given to give it to newborns is in case their mothers are infected. In that case, why not test the mothers before subjecting ALL newborns to a vaccine that kills more infants each year than hep B ever has?
I had a dr. in the NICU insisting on giving my premie, who was there with an infection and immature lungs, and was intubated for breathing at the time, this vaccine. I finally had to point out, loudly enough for every parent in the NICU to hear, that, unless he had hep B loose in his NICU, my daughter was in no condition to be having any unnecessary medical procedures just then. They are NOT supposed to vaccinate sick children.
Our 3 unvaccinated kids are sick far less often than any other kids in their age group that we know, and the illnesses they do get are shorter and milder. Two out of three have never had any reason to see a doctor, and all are well ahead on developmental and academic milestones.

  34. @D - " Can you guarantee that much that many details in their future lives? "

I don't see anything in this article that would suggest that he would prevent his children from deciding to get vaccinations in the future. His problem is the vaccine schedule for Hep B - at 1 day old, with the rest of the series following in the next several months. Do you know of any babies that have multiple sex partners, share needles or perform other risky behavior? I certainly don't. If a person chooses to engage in such behaviors later in life, they are free to get this vaccine on their own. I take this to be a parental issue - of making a choice for your children while they are too young to make the choices for themselves.

In the medical field, as you know, they work on a risk vs. benefit platform. In the case of vaccines, their claim is that the benefits outweigh the risks. Well, I researched and researched and researched and prayed till I was blue with my first born and it lead me to find in each and every single one of the vaccines offered that the risks outweigh the benefits. None of my children have been vaccinated for anything and they are all healthy and happy! That's not to say they haven't had some of those nasty bugs because they have... but they lived and are stronger for it!

  39. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am a homeopath, RN and recently a PHD DNM. I have been studying this greed based vaccine craze for several years. I am convince from my studies that the Autism spectrum is a direct result of vaccine abuse. As a homeopath I agree that "like cures like" but the addition of toxic additives ( so called preservatives) and the over abundance of shots are the culprit. What if I injected a healthy adult with over 36-40 diseases with all the added toxins in less than 2 years? How would you feel?? Also, the most important fact is that they don't work as they are marketed...a cure all. Again, thank you for such a well written, easily understandable realistic article. The greed and insanity have to stop. Who is going to pay for the care of thousands of autistic adults in the next generation not to mention the destruction of so many lives. Look at what we are doing to our children.... it is our responsibility to spread the word and REFUSE the poison.

  40. Do you think there is any correlation between the DTap and SIDS? After doing lots and lots of research after my third daughter was born I decided against all vaccines, at least for now. In that research I found a lot of linking factors between the vaccine and sids and I'm confused why it isn't brought up more. Any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete

    1. The confusion should be remedied with anything brought up with vaccines. Vaccines is the medical Sacred Cow and to even suggest that it is unsafe in any way, if there's a link to neurodevelopmental disorders, SIDS, auto-immune disorders, chronic health problems, etc, immediately gets thrown under the rug. Because there isn't a causal relationship, they dismiss is as coincidence. Meaning, you get hit by a truck and break a bone, that's causal. Let's say you get a get whiplash and report you feel fine right after but 10 years later you have a bunch of degeneration built up in the neck, that's a relational cause. Because of the time between incident and ailment is greater than a day, it gets chalked up to you being in the 'unlucky' club.

And now, with a 10 yr old, 5 yr old, and 2 yr old, I'm just starting to do research to back up my decision. Crazy late, I know, but all the information makes me so glad I decided against vaccines. My 5 year old is epileptic and I can't imagine how much worse it could be if he had gotten the some of the recommended vaccines!!

One question for you: our pedi is "okay" with us not vaccinating our kids. Of course she always suggests it and I always have to sign a waiver to refuse vaccines (shouldn't it be the other way around?!). She never pressures us or treats us differently for refusing. However, with my epileptic son we run into different doctors. And when I say that he's had no vaccines, they kind of step back like he's a ticking time bomb of diseases. I don't want to feel like I have to defend myself and our choice but is there anything I could say to simply back up my choice without pulling up this article and reading it to them?! :-) Thank you!

Once you start waiving your legal rights around, they tend to back down a bit. But don't be surprised if they are clueless that there are exemption laws out there.

  51. I found this on a link through a friend's facebook link and had some thoughts. Here they are:

To begin with, and this is based on the college immunology course I took, the author clearly does not understand how immunizations work. The body does have a natural defense system that recognizes pathogens and, in response, creates antibodies which attach to the pathogen and facilitate it's destruction by other components of the immune system. However, this response takes time, and by the time the immune system has built up a full response the infection can be too widespread to control, or may have already done serious damage. What a vaccine does is inject either a dead pathogen or part of a pathogen into the body, which the immune system can recognize and respond to by creating a store of antibodies before an infection occurs. This way, once one is infected with a live strain of the disease, the body is ready for a full immune response that can quickly eliminate the threat before the infection can do damage. So what a vaccine does is preemptively stimulate the body's natural immune response to defend it against infections that it may not be able to handle on its own.

As far as polio goes, the author is absolutely right that even during epidemics, it was a fairly rare occurrence. In the 1910s before the vaccine, there were about 7 paralytic cases of polio per 100,000 population per year in the United States. Let's assume this is an acceptable risk and everyone stops getting vaccinated. Given the current US population of about 317 million, if 7/100,000 of everyone in the US were to be paralyzed by polio there would be 22,190 people being paralyzed every year by this disease. Yes, it's a very small percentage of the population, but so was the number of people killed on September 11. If we choose as a society to not vaccinate our children, we are condemning tens of thousands of people to go through life permanently damaged.

One last point, the author claims there were only 2 deaths from measles in 2003. Guess why? - WE VACCINATE. In the early 1960s before licensing of the measles vaccine, greater than 90% of Americans were infected with measles before the age of 15. Between 1956-1960 there were an average of 450 measles-caused deaths in the US per year. How many deaths are caused by vaccines per year? The author's argument seems to be vaccines work, so clearly we should stop using them.

If you choose not to vaccinate your children, they will likely be fine. If they do get a disease which could have been prevented by a vaccine, chances are good that their resilient bodies will recover. However, if we as a society choose to follow your decision, there will be those who suffer and die because of it. The decision to not vaccinate your child is not confined to your household. It affects the community in which you live.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. But wait...if said community is vaccinated, then they shouldn't have cause to worry, right? The vaccines should work!

  52. I had a lapse of good sense and let my daughter be vaccinated last week. I was sorry within 1 day and have been on the phone with Aryvedic dr's and looking for a safe detox for her since. They do exist and after lengthy investigation, if I feel its safe for her (safety for my baby definition: NO ONE has died from trying it and any percent of people don't get hospitalized, autism or learning disabilities from trying it)then ill try it.
I don't know how untested harmful crap gets drug pushed on me to use on my baby but its pure insanity. Logic is an incredibly important quality that we should exercise.
Ive studied the harmful effects of vaccinations for a while and I hope all parents do . Because you shouldn't take my opinion or anyones opinion to heart as much as you should just investigate. DO some homework. Its out there.
Look at the CDC website about it....My favorite part is how all their warning stories don't apply to any baby who was at the recommended age for a vaccine or the flu they caught was just unpleasant. They cant put untrue stories on there I guess because they would probably get sued.
My pediatrician isn't a bad person, but shes ignorant to the facts. Ignorant literally means "lack of information" and that's it. Im her mom. This is my job, and if she gets sick naturally ill know I didn't do anything to perpetuate that ~ and I feel confident if she ever does it wont be Polio or some other ridiculous thing. I take great care of her so I am good with that.
Look into the separate court system these agecies have for the parents of children killed or mamed for life by these injections. If the CDC had anything half as good of first hand stories to tell you from NOT getting the shots you better be damn sure they' be making bus line posters instead of trying to hide it by only settling court cases with silence orders from the parents.
Scary. Look into what financial state the vaccination agency was in and how they almost went bankrupt before they increased the amount of vaccines your child "needs". So wrong. Its wrong to mislead us for money but its not rare in this country.
Thanks for the article. Thank you for working hard to help us. I appreciate people like you so much.

    1. I think it's a little strange you cite a professor of linguistics at MIT as a source on why universities should not be trusted. The man I learned about immunology from, Dr. Hillis of Baylor University, graduated from Johns Hopkins University of Medicine in 1957 and has practiced medicine for over 50 years. He is a distinguished academic and humanitarian who spent years in India during a cholera epidemic and was part of the team that promoted oral rehydration therapy as a treatment, saving lives. This is not a man who can be bought. This is the kind of person I trust, and I would encourage those who are researching vaccinations to seek out similar sources.

The reason communication from the brain to the heart is limited is that a collection of nerve cells in the atria of the heart called the sinoatrial node spontaneously depolarize at regular intervals, generating an electrical impulse that travels throughout the heart and causes contraction of the cardiac muscle. It's a fascinating phenomenon, but should not be used as an excuse to ignore research that contradicts one's point of view. Incidentally, they do teach about this in school - human physiology classes.

  54. Thanks for a great article. There is much more information here & more easily understood than most sources I have read.

Of course you couldn't cover every aspect in one article, but I would love to see someone like yourself stress the responsibility non-vaxing parents have to build their children's immune system naturally. Even better would be an article this thorough about HOW to do that. You did mention breastfeeding & general nutrition, but man do we need better explanation of "good nutrition" today.
My husband and I made an informed decision to not vax, and with that committed to building strong immune systems naturally and also to be vigilant in watching for signs of the illnesses (so many of us have no idea what most of these diseases even look like any more). Pro-vax people think parents like us are lazy or careless about our children's health, but (at the risk of sounding arrogant) I believe we are much more purposeful about health. I would love to see an article this informative to help parents understand what they can do to hero their babies stay healthy.

I wish I were close to your practice. It is difficult to find sane people where I live, and I recently found a chiropractor who I will take my daughter to see this week. Up until this week, I was taking her to a naturopath. I liked the naturopath, because she was obviously more educated on nutrition than my pediatrician (who fired me of course). BUT I don't like how my naturopath wouldn't say "vaccination is a poor choice." She came from a more neutral standpoint to be "supportive of parent choices." I think that's b.s. I need someone who has the nerve and conviction to give their medical opinion, regardless of how I might react but continue to see me regardless of how I follow my plan of care. Why are professionals like this so hard to find? It's annoying. I feel like I should go back to school and be that person in northern Virginia. Do you have a network of like-minded doctors that you can provide contact info?

  61. Let's extend your logic to bridges.

I should conclude that bridges are bad because there were 0 bridge related deaths until bridges came onto the scene. Moreover, it's simply unnatural to drive over water.

My expertise on the dangers of bridges comes from the fact that, while I may not have any formal education in the form of engineering, I've have crossed countless bridges in my day. Also, when I was 6, I built a replica of the Golden Gate bridge with only a 200 piece set of Legos and some obscure instructions.

In the face of any evidence to the contrary, I will proceed to stick my fingers in my ears and yell "BRIDGES ARE BAD!"

My friend's cousin's brother-in-law's mother was once driving across a bridge when, all of a sudden, she started to experience some gastrointestinal discomfort. Being the intellectual she is, she put down her Big Mac, looked out the window, and noticed that she was unnaturally driving over water. Her story was quickly picked up by Jenny McCarthy who broadcasted the dangers of bridges all across the world, bring awareness to all water-ridden areas.

  62. To expand upon what Anonymous posted two posts up, the tetanus shot contains toxoid (NOT toxin), which is an altered form of the toxin that is unable to cause any damage. The reason for giving the toxoid is that the tiny amount of toxin present in a cut could be enough to kill you but not enough to actually cause an immune response. So the IgG (antibodies) included in the shot protect you from the tetanus toxin which may currently be in your system, while the toxoid protects you from future intoxications with tetanus. The shot does NOT actually contain tetanus, but does contain substances to protect against current and future bouts with tetanus.

    1. It is not my duty to risk one of my kids getting one of the many acute vaccine adverse effects, or one of the even more chronic diseases that may be linked to vaccination, because someone else's child is immune deficient. Also, the immune deficient child is at far greater risk from being near a child who has been freshly vaccinated with one of the several vaccines that cause them to shed the virus vaccinated for than they are from being near my healthy, but unvaccinated, kids. For that matter, my unvaccinated kids are less likely to be sick with any other disease than any vaxxed kid I've ever seen, so they are probably the safest kids for an immune suppressed kid to be around!

Vitamin C deactivates the poliomyelitis virus. Besides poor diet, antibiotics and pesticides such as DDT are causal factors of polio. Today the CDC admits that all cases of polio are caused by the vaccine.

  71. Dr. Perkins,

Just a few questions as I've been recently introduced to this whole debate after years of being 'neutral'.

In your first chart showing the incorrect labeling of the introduction vaccine, you indicate that there was a sharp decrease in polio cases BEFORE the vaccine was introduced.

I tried downloading the raw numbers from:
    http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/pinkbook/downloads/appendices/g/cases&deaths.PDF

And graph them myself. From that data (which is only at a yearly level) it seems that until 1955 the number of cases went down AND up - no trend, but 1955 and on indicates a strong downward trend.

Can you explain how that reconciles to the graph you posted? I am trying to understand both sides and look strictly at the numbers to see which side makes the most sense.

    Thank you.

    1. Interestingly, this cdc data STARTS in 1950. If there was a massive drop in cases and deaths before this, we wouldn't know about it from the all-knowing cdc. Why would this be, do you think?

  75. The article was very informative. I wish I had the internet when I had my kids. I drug my feet and they did not get them when the doctor told me but I did let them finished just before they went to school.. (being told I could not enroll them). I want to give you a bit of history... I was born in 1958 in San Bernardino, CA, my parents were middle america, not rich not poor. , as our parents were told. I remember getting the shot (it was the measles vaccine in 1963 ) when I was 5, I then came down with the German Measles. My mom kept us in a dark room for 10 days, the light hurt our eyes. We moved to No. California in 1964, after attending school for less than 2 weeks, I came down with the mumps. I was the only one, a few months later I came down with the measles (3 day) they said. and the following year all 3 of us had the chicken pox. Then following year (I'm only in the second grade) I came down with what they thought was Scarlet fever, but turn out to be Scarlet-tina (less harmful cousin). When I was 9 my dad was told we all needed a booster for the Measles, so we all got a gun (16 needle) booster shot. Fast forward. In 1979 I was getting married, Calif requires a blood test, I was informed that I had no anti-bodies against rubella and if I ever wanted to have healthy kids I needed a booster. So I got one, in 1982 I was pregnant with my son. Blood test showed I was not immunized against rubella, I was told to stay away from little kids until after I had him. Before I left the hospital they gave me a booster. When I got pregnant with my daughter in 1985, I was told the same thing. I told them that I was done with the shots.. I didn't want any more they did not work on me. I was bullied by the doctor that I would not be allowed to bring my kids in for well baby checks because I could carry the measles to all the young children. SO I got another shot. In 1992 it was announced that anyone born after 1956 must get a booster for the measles. New strain or something... I did not look into to it because I knew I wouldn't be getting a shot ever again for measles... Every time I get blood work done I am told the same thing. Am I unusual? or is this the results of most or all? I have refused to get anymore booster since 1985. I'll take my chances, well I have no choice do I. I have been a school bus driver and sub teacher since 2000, and I never get any flue shots or any other shots and I rarely ever get sick and I am exposed to all kinds of kids sniffles. I have not had a tetanus shot for about 20 years, I live on 25 acres and have animals and clean up after them, If I puncture my self I clean it out really good put a bandage on it an go on. Do I knock on wood that I have no consequences, I think it is common sense. My kids were vaccinated. My daughter has Asberger syndrome, no rhyme or reason. I ofen wonder if the vaccines I let them give her was to blame, but I'll never know, she was about 2 years old when I noticed she was different, she is the joy of my life and I couldn't love her more. My son got the chicken pox when he was 18 months old after a visit to the doctors, my daughter when when was 8 years old from school. Both of my kids have been healthy, I rarely took them to the doctors believing that is where they will get sick. If I had to do it all over again I would never have let anyone inject my kids with toxins. But I was un-informed back in the 80"s. Please do research and make up your own mind. Don't let the scare tactics that the doctors or schools throw at you make you do something you may regret. Dr. Perkins points out a lot of misconceptions that most people have mainly from the mainstream media and doctors. Whom you trust to tell you the truth. I would love to see some hard facts. If everyone was vaccinated in the 50's, 60's & 70's. why is there any of these diseases left out there at all? The point he makes about vaccinating your babies only make sense. Anyway Thank You for the article. I hope my rambling makes sense.

    1. No, you're not unusual. You are making decisions based on what you feel is best for you or your family. The hard thing with vaccines, is they don't know how long they last, hence the need for more boosters. They get studied to see if there is an antibody response but not tested to see how long they last. This is what we are seeing with Pertussis. There are pockets of pertussis happening and the majority are in fully vaccinated kids, not the ones that chose not to get the shots.

  76. This is amazing and I'm going to share this! I'm getting tired of people looking at my son like he's diseased, or like my son is going to get their kid killed because I've not vaccinated him. I've had a vaccine debate of my own on my blog: http://www.ssgtchrisames.com/vaccine-debate/
    Thanks for the article!

  78. Great article Dr Kurt! My partner has just commenced med school and I know vaccines is going to cause a lot of drama in the future when we start a family. I'm preparing myself and all the information now because I know it will be quite war like for me to get him to understand. This is a great article that I think is very thought provoking for the pro vaccine people. If they want sourced literature with double blinded randomized studies this will challenge them to find it!

  79. Thank you so much for this article. I was a public health nurse in the 80's and vaccinated both of my babies because that is just what we did as parents. As a public health nurse, I found myself asking the "usual" list of questions to the parents of the babies I was about to vaccinate, and I began to wonder why there had to be so many questions. That started a search with very few answers and only my intuition to not inject them any more. In the end, the third baby had no vaccines and only recently a tetanus because of our location. I am still wondering if that was the best idea, but in any case it is done. My other babies are deciding for themselves as adults if they want to vaccinate to make up for what I did not allow when they were minors. I am so grateful for intelligent articles like this one. I wish I had it in the 80's!

  81. Great piece. One other kind of study that is woefully lacking: the effect of vaccines on the human microbiome. Any bets that vaccines skews the microbial community wildly?

  82. My children, unfortunately, have had their vaccines, and I have one daughter in the military who has had more than her fair share of vaccinations. What can one do to cleanse the body of these vaccines? I would love to get rid of these heavy metals and viruses and poisons that are in our bodies as result of vaccinations. What can be done for forced vaccinations to prepare the body for the onslaught and to cleanse afterwards?

    1. The cleansing part can be pretty involved and can be answered more specifically after seeing lab work, looking at history and lifestyle to see what best avenue to tackle first. Dr. Sherry Tenpenny has some good material on the prep for vaccination. Google her and check out her stuff.

  83. You had me at the first line of defense! Well done...as a student just about to enter medical school (also a mom of two) I revisit this issue over and over again. This is one of the easiest to follow assessment of the vaccine/immunity issue I have read so thank you. I have held off on medical school for many, many years because much of it seemed so counter to the ideology of better health. I hope, in becoming a Naturopathic Physician from one of the few accredited schools in the U.S. there will be more training in line with the logic you provided here.

  84. Dear Dr. Perkins, I love your site and have shared it!! BIG QUESTION: What is the name of the homeopathic remedy for tetanus? AND Where can I get it (who makes it so I can give that info to my homeopathic supplier)? Thank you for your awesome common sense and wonderful application of logical thinking!!!

  85. Dr. Kurt,

What do you think about stories like this:

    http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-measles-outbreak-orange-county-20140326,0,7898837.story#axzz2xDAli9do

that report measles and other preventable diseases as being on the rise due to anti-vaccine campaigns?

  86. Thank you for the info! My son is 15 months and he is at the clumsy stage. Just yesterday he scraped both his knees at the park on the the dirty sidewalk. He was brought home and his scrapes were cleaned out with water and soap. Now Im not sure if it's because of the years of hearing pro-vac propaganda, but I still felt the panic of "what about tetanus..." How can I reassure myself (be it research links, or natural solutions) that he is at a low risk of contracting it? I haven't felt panicked about anything else (he is unvacced) but for some reason tetanus sends the fear factor into my protective mama brain. Thoughts? Thank you for all your efforts to spread awareness Dr.Kurt. I think our future unvacced generations will appreciate the informed decisions.

The positions asserted above are not coming from a handful of fringe lunatics; entire professional organizations are speaking out. Criticisms of vaccines are being sounded by an increasing number of credible and reputable scientists, researchers, investigators, and self-educated parents from around the world. Instead, it is public health officials and die-hard vaccine advocates (many of whom have a financial stake in the outcome of the debate) who are beginning to lose credibility by refusing to acknowledge the growing body of evidence and to address the very real, serious, documented problems.

  88. Given the unprecedented number of people crossing our borders in recent months (and the diseases they are bringing with them), does this change anyone's views who are against vaccines? My mother (also my biggest critic for questioning vaccines) continually reminds me that the 2014 measles outbreak is due to unvaccinated people traveling from Central and South America. How does this quantum leap in the number of illegals and the risks of international travel factor into your decision, if at all? I really need some perspective on this... Thanks!
